Financial Loss Leaves Bundibugyo District Engineer in Jail

By Angel Lubowa

The SH_ACU in collaboration with the CID and the DPP ,Thursday afternoon arraigned Bundibugyo District Engineer, Muhindo Bithi Robert, before the Anti-Corruption Court on charges of causing financial loss.

He denied the charges and remanded until September 25th, 2026.

In 2024, while employed as the Bundibugyo District Engineer, Muhindo, together with others still at large, failed to conduct a soil-bearing capacity test before designing a bridge along the Tokwe–Kanyamwirima–Hakitara Road in Bundibugyo District.

It is alleged that this was done in contravention of the General Specifications for Road and Bridge Works (Series 6000 – Structures).

It is further alleged that the omission contributed to the collapse of the bridge, which had been constructed at a cost of UGX 115 million, thereby causing financial loss to the Government.

This arrest and arraignment follow the continued “Expose the Corrupt” National Campaign spearheaded by the Minister of Local Government, Hon. Balaam Barugahara, to strengthen accountability and address corruption in Local Governments.
