District Officials Remanded Over Abuse of Office

By Angel Lubowa

The SH_ACU working with the Uganda police and the DPP have arraigned two Bunyangabu District Local Government officials namely; Bajenje Kenneth, Town Clerk
and Kitalengwa Beatrice, Senior Treasurer before the Anti-Corruption Division on charges of abuse of office.

They were remanded until 25/09/2026 after they denied the alleged charges.

In 2022, The duo while serving as Town Clerk and Senior Treasurer of Nyakigumba Town Council in Bunyangabu District respectively, abused their authority by arbitrarily purchasing land in Kisomoro II Cell, East Ward, Nyakigumba Town Council, on behalf of the council without following the mandatory procurement procedures for acquiring property by a local government.

Due to their disregard of the due processes, they bought land less than what was planned for hence causing loss to govt of over UGX46M.

These arraignments stem from the ongoing “Expose the Corrupt” Campaign, spearheaded by the Minister of Local Government, Hon.Balaam Barugahara to hold public officials accountable for the management of public resources and the delivery of services to citizens.
