After putting DR Congo in shambles and Uganda in great panic recently, the deadly Ebola has flown to Kenya through one patient who likely carried it from.Congo and he has been announced dead.
The situation has forced Kenyan government to confirmed its first imported Ebola case.
Records indicate that the dead Kenyan man travelled from the Democratic Republic of Congo before later dying at Nairobi Hospital.
Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale announced the case on Tuesday, October 6, saying the patient had lived in the DRC for seven years before returning to Kenya on Saturday.
Authorities have identified 28 contacts, including relatives and health workers.
The man fell ill about a month ago and received treatment in the DRC before travelling by road to Kampala and then flying to Nairobi on October 3, according to Duale.
“I wish to assure the public not to panic, as all systems are in place to mitigate the spread of the disease,” Duale said.
The patient underwent routine public health screening at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport before a relative and a friend took him directly to Nairobi Hospital.
Hospital staff isolated him after he presented with symptoms including fever, chills, severe fatigue, muscle pain and bleeding beneath the skin at an injection site.
A sample collected for testing returned positive for Ebola.
“The patient was given supportive treatment but regrettably passed on last night at around 11.30pm,” Duale said.
Arrangements were being made for a safe burial on Tuesday under Ebola public health protocols.
Kenyan authorities are also tracing 23 passengers who travelled on the same flight as the patient.
His journey through Uganda makes the investigation relevant to health authorities along the regional travel route, although the Kenyan announcement does not establish that he contracted the virus in Uganda. (apnews.com)
The case comes as the DRC battles an outbreak caused by the Bundibugyo species of Ebola. According to figures attributed to the World Health Organization, the country had recorded 8,463 cases and 4,082 deaths by October 2. (channelstv.com)
Uganda’s outbreak was declared over on August 26, 2026. However, WHO has warned that continued movement of people and goods across the region requires sustained preparedness at border crossings. (
Ebola spreads mainly through contact with infected people, their bodily fluids or the bodies of those who have died from the disease. Early detection, isolation and contact tracing remain central to containing its spread.
